Linking Science to Water – Conference
Sunday, 28 September, 2008
As part of the Living Laboratories programme, ICE WaRM is jointly hosting an important conference with the South Australian Department of Land and Biodiversity Conservation and the Chief Scientist of South Australia which aims to improve the links between science and the development of public policy in water resources management.
The conference, to be held in Adelaide on November 20, will include presentations by leading Canadian water professionals, as well as Australian experts.
Guest speakers are Steve Topping and Rhonda McDougal from Manitoba Water Stewardship – which regulates various aspects of the province’s water resources including water quality, fisheries and water use licensing.
Among the issues being examined is the ramifications of the devastating 1997 Red River flood in Manitoba which inundated 2500 square kilometres of land, destroyed 250 homes and forced the evacuation of 28,000 people.
