Living Laboratories Update
Wednesday, 16 July, 2008
The latest ICE WaRM Living Laboratory seminar at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide set the spotlight on Technological Innovation in Wetland Management.
The workshop explored new approaches which can halt the decline in wetlands, floodplains and other river systems – many of them suffering serious and rapid degradation because of reduced water flows and longer periods between inundation.
Speakers warned that without substantial changes in management, especially water use efficiency, many of these systems will suffer ecological collapse.
And they examined new technology in the irrigation industry which may be modified to manage environmental flows and substantially improve ecological conditions.
